Kaweka Hospital is the first surgical facility in Hawke’s Bay to invest in the latest laser technology offering an unparalleled level of precision for surgery and a faster recovery for our patients. The TruBlue laser will be used by our ENT team for specific procedures such as treating and removal of leukoplakia, papillomas and polyps, Reincke’s oedema and capillary Ectasia and conditions in the middle ear. It is used to coagulate and vaporize for bloodless surgery. We are also the first in Hawke’s Bay to invest in the latest image guidance system, also known as Stealth Navigation, allowing our surgeons to perform surgery of the sinuses and ear more accurately, safely and reducing the risk of revision surgery required.

Cristian is a new transplant to New Zealand. Having worked both in the UK and the USA he is familiar with various different medical systems. Cristian, his wife Carrie (an Audiologist) and their two young sons, decided that a move to New Zealand was the adventure they were looking for and have found working and living in Hawke’s Bay a delight.
Cristian completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham Medical School, UK 1998 completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degrees (BMBS) in 2000. His initial post-graduate years as a junior doctor were undertaken in the UK obtaining his Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons in 2004. After completing a Fellowship in Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA, he went on to complete a residency in Otolaryngology in at Oregon Health and Sciences University. He then worked in private practice for 10 years in Portland, Oregon, becoming Chief of Staff of his local hospital. After completing his tenure Cristian and his family set their sights on a move to New Zealand to experience the wonderful opportunities this country has to offer.

Originally from Auckland, Bevan worked in the Hawke’s Bay Hospital twice during junior doctor rotations. He returned permanently in 2017 to take up a post as a Consultant General Surgeon, establishing a practice in both the public and private sector and he is married to a local GP.
Bevan completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Human Biology (BHB) in 2003 and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in 2006. Post-graduate years as a junior doctor were undertaken in Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, Rotorua, New Plymouth and Palmerston North. Sid returns to the Hawke’s Bay as a Consultant General Surgeon after commencing his surgical training here as a registrar in 2008. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in 2004 and was awarded the Stanley Batchelor Memorial Prize in Surgery.

Kirsten is a consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist and has obtained both her Medical degree and a Post-graduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology from the University of Otago. Subsequent to these accomplishments she embarked upon her Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist training and completed this in 2014 upon being awarded her Fellowship (FRANZCOG).
She has a special interest in complex obstetrics and completed an 18 month Fellowship (Mater Mothers Hospital, Brisbane) in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Whilst in Brisbane Kirsten also completed the highly complementary DDU (a post-graduate Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound).
Kirsten provides care in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Obstetric interests and expertise are outlined above and areas of interest in gynaecology include pre-conception counselling, fertility assessment and the management of heavy periods. Kirsten is involved in quality improvement in her role at the DHB and strives to provide up to date evidence based practice and is a senior Clinical lecturer for the university of Otago. Dr Liz Insull is a New Zealand and UK trained Oculoplastic and Ophthalmic surgeon based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Liz is the only member of the Australian, New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons (ANZSOPS) in Hawke’s Bay.
